Mark Ragan is part of our team. Explorer was built privately by Kroehl, a former naval officer who left the serviuce after his health was ruined by malaria in the Vickburg campaign. Kroehl's plan was to offer it to the Navy, but the sub was not completed until the war was over, in November 1865. It was sent to Panama in September 1866 and abandoned in November 1869 in the cove we found it in.

It is being documented and most likely will be recovered and preserved in the U.S.
