There is - or at least there once was - a painting of a Union gunboat by artist Frank L. Shepard, showing the boat making a dash through the center of Bailey's Dam in Red River at Alexandria, Louisiana in 1864. The painting looks upstream and shows a large sidewheel ironclad in the lower center passing through the dam while several other gunboats wait in the right background.
Any possibility that we have any art experts out there who know where this painting might now be located? I have reason to believe the painting was done long after the fact, but any info on the painting or artist would be appreciated.
