Here's what I did:

I have a large website on Vermont in the Civil War, with a small but growing section on the Navy (that keeps it on topic here ). Someon 'borrowed' a list of 100 Canadians who served in Vermont units and posted it on his site with no reference to mine. I told him, he denied it, saying someone else had contributed it. I asked for the name, he 'lost the email.' I asked him to credit my site, he refused. I threatened to sue, he blustered, 'called his lawyer,' etc., but he took the information off the site and put up a whine about how abusive I was (I think its still there). I've put thousands of hours into my project and am not about to let anyone steal it without citing it. FYI You are protected by copyright laws!!
