Re: Citations of Material used on Web Sites.

Tom and Terry,

I think you've stumbled upon one of the basic flaws of the Internet. There are good researchers, with good sites, such as yours. And there are sloppy researchers, with garbage dumps, that are also on the Net. And then there are lazy researchers, who are not shy about taking what they can from both types of sites and putting it all together and calling it their own. They either don't know the difference between the two types of sites, or don't care.

The result, of course, is a whole lot more garbage getting on the Net than actual good hard research. (Good plus garbage equals garbage.) The challenge is how to separate the two.

This is no different than what you have in published books, but the ease of putting something on the Internet, as opposed to the hassle of getting a book published, has really exacerbated the problem.

Good luck to you both. I've also found my own material on the Internet, copyrighted by people who took it word for word from a paper I put together - or almost word for word. They added a sentence, which became the sole error in the paper! I sympathize with you.
