My great,great grandfather was William Smith the chief engineer of the CSS Webb, not to be confused with the Dollie Webb (a smaller craft). He also served aboard the CSS McRae whose exploits are often conflated with the Webb. His son William Joseph Smith operated Smith & Rauch Grocers in New Orleans in the twenties and thirties. It was a great pleasure to read this account as I had not read of it in detail before, thanks!
