Midshipmen papers contain some vital statistics that might be of use in sorting out who was what size; light hair color might be decernable, relative ages. I don't know which surgeon was posted on the USS Kearsarge during this period, a rather intense one in the life cycle of the vessel, medical records might give up some information regarding who was who.
