Re: Six-inch Dalgren Gun, Gunboat "Chattahoochee"

Gerald- I can't offer any information to you regarding the movement of the Naval gun crews from the C.S.S. Chatahoochee to a position countering the Federal siege line, but I do have a question.

Col. Shelby, C.S.A. was in command of the left wing of a regiment of the 39th Mississippi on June 8, 1864. He reported that the shelling of the Mortars was so heavy as to drive the cannoneers from their guns. Did Shelby confuse the fire received? I don't find any Mortars in the area, just light artillery and 11th Indiana siege guns.
