Re: Confederate Citizenship for Foreign Enlistees

I'm wondering how these documents of citizenship would hold up in a court representing the nation of the shipper in question. The British took their foreign enlistment statutes seriously. The "stowaways" of the Australian berthing of the C.S.S. Shenandoah and those shipping aboard the Georgia might have been subjected to some terminal rough handling should the vessels have been subject to hostile capture. From the Confederate standpoint some much needed manpower was aquired, as well as accountability.

Another year rolls on. I am still of the opinion that the serving of the Christmas dinner aboard the C.S.S. Shenandoah, in such seas as she was subject to on that faraway day, is one of the high points of achievement for the C.S.
