my grandmother elizabeth evangelene loy province(deceased) had an uncle w.h. hardy who served aboard the susquehanna. i have lettes written to her from him in the early 1900's describing the perry expedition and his picture in uniform with susquehanna visible on the band of his hat--i have recently been researching family history and found your site--i know you are probably already published, but could send copies of these things if you would be interested--also if you have any information re: w.h. hardy, i would be interested--he wrote several letters over the course of a couple of years and i have not read all, but the one i have read talks about the expedition and i also have an article of an interview in the new york times 8/5/1918 describing a return visit to japan lasting 6 mo just before the article was written---------------thanks, suzanne kear
