My great-great grandfather James S. (F.?) Cox supposedly fought in the Civil War aboard the USS Susquehanna at the Battle of Mobile Bay, yet I have been unable to find proof of this. According to his obituary, he first joined the 9th Regiment New York volunteers..Col. Hawkins' Zouaves..they fought at the Battle of Roanoke Island, after which he transfers from the army into the navy and later serves aboard the USS Susquehanna. He is later mustered out and goes on to work as an assistant undertaker for Ferdinand Selles in Brooklyn, NY..he died in 1915 and is buried in Greenwood Cmetery..his brother Joseph was supposed to have also served in the Civil War and later became a doctor..any information that you can share would be greatly appreciated..I can send you a copy of the obit if you like...CHris
