i figured i would just post the link to the article written by I. N. Brown. Apparently 'Battles and Leaders' is available online at OSU.

Brown doesn't mention the Hartford by name just that a 160 lb. bolt from one of the Union vessels did the damage. He also says that the engines were 'disabled'..not 'dismounted' but i guess that could have been part of the problem. it certainly seems like the Arkansas didn't start experiencing major engine problems until after that shot.
