Abraham W. Bessent CS Marines

Today while working on my family tree I found a Gr-Gr-Gr Uncle named Abraham W. Bessent who was listed as "serving in the Confederate Marines, and served aboard the CSS Virginia as a ships carpenter."

I have looked on the NPS soldiers search and was unable to find him. Do CMSR's exist for Confederate Navy and Marines? And would a Marine have served as a carpenter aboard a ship? Maybe he was in the CSN instead? I am curious if he served on any other ships of fame.

He was born in Charleston, SC in 1828 and died in Hall County, Georgia after 1880.

Any Ideas?
