Hi,

I understand that there were at least three Confederate gunboats operating around Columbus, KY in the fall of 1861. One was the Yankee. The other two were the Jeff Davis and something called the Equality. The latter two were apparently "gotten up" army vessels (as Porter liked to call such informalities). The former is referenced in ORN, I, 22, while the latter is only mentioned in an article in the Memphis Avalanche of August 16. Does anyone have any particulars on any of these three beyond what the USN provides?
