I've had my grey uniform and my whites for about 8-10 years. I don't remember the name of the couple who made them, I believe they were in PA and made the uniforms used in the Hunley movie. I had a black flat made by a guy living in Washington state at time. We wore our uniforms in the A&E History Channel documentary series Great Ships-Ironclads. Although I've seen us used in several other segments. My straw hat came from England, Ship's Store CSS Alabama/HMS Victory web site. I have gotten a good bit if uniform items from the Navy Relief Society Thrift store at the Navy base in Millington, TN. A lot of modern navy uniform items, ie, Wool Sweaters, neckerchiefs ( although slightly larger than period ones, if made up, tied & worn correctly, its okay, Pea coats with the buttons changed out are correct. The Navy has always been slow to change, if it ain't broke leave it alone. I have trained my crew on the Bosun's call ( some incorrectly refer to it as Bosun's pipe), signal flags, use of a sextant, marlinspike seamanship and other skills that are useful for a sailor to know. We mostly do living history events and the like. John
