Re: Laundress KIA, aboard the USS CRICKET.

Terry,

I have the muster sheets for Cricket from 31 March and 17 April. The earlier one lists a Perry Johnson, Officer's Steward, enlisted 8 February "from shore" at Johnson's Point. He is 23 years old. No mention of any Ann Johnson in the roll.

Directly below him is a Wesley Johnson, age 34, with identical information but enlisted on 23 February.

Both men are black.

Oddly, the 17 April muster sheet does not mention either of these fellows. From the info in the register, I would assume that Ann is the wife of Perry--was her husband killed before the 17th April muster, and she allowed to stay aboard? No way to know.

Chuck
