Re: Georgia Artillery Units

Thanks Ron. Yes, I realize I may never find what battery the guns were issued to, but can narrow the search down by researching each one and providing a general provenance. I have more than two to research, but all of the cannons from the Augusta Foundry were forged in 1863 (unknown months) and sent to the Army of Tennessee. So far, I have not found any that might have been involved in the Tullahoma Campaign (jan-1863), but start finding them (12-lb bronze Napolean smooth-bores)appearing at Chickamauga (summer, 1863). I have found that some units had other types of cannons, so that helps in narrowing it down. Since Longstreet was sent to the West about this time and had Georgia Artillery units in his command, I am thinking they were sent out West the same time he was by rail. Just conjecture. I appreciate your comments.
