Re: Union Artillery used by Union Calvary

I'm disappointed that Banasik misidentified the "small steel rifled guns" of the First Indiana Cavalry as "James Rifles." They have previously been misidentified as "Woodruff guns" too. These are errors of commission, for there simply isn't an explicit identification of the four guns the First Indiana possessed, or at least I've failed to find one. Most likely they were small Blakely (English-made) imported pieces. They were (documentably) of 2.9-inch bore.
n.b.: the "light battery" of the First Indiana CAVALRY has also been misidentified as the "First Battery, Indiana Light Artillery" which did, also, serve west of the Mississippi (though I don't believe the "reverse" mis-identification has ever occurred). The First Indiana L.A. did have rifled 6-pounder bronze "James-type" guns.
The Woodruffs (if that was what they were) at Kirksville were commanded by 1st Lt. Alex. McLar[r]en, of Capt. Horace B. Johnson's Co. L, First Missouri Cavalry, State Militia. This company is sometimes called "Johnson's Battery, Horse Artillery". References to Woodruff guns are most commonly in connection with Illinois units, not Missouri units.
