Re: Union Artillery used by Union Calvary

Frank, I appreciate that information. it means I might not have been havng Delusions about reading in the report at Salem. Do you know of any reason why Salem, Arkansas is overlooked as a reported Skirmish? The Third Iowa Calvary thought it severe enough to include it as a Battle honor. A photograph of a Veterans reunion of the 3rd Iowa clearly shows the battle honors in the book "Portraits of Conflict-Arkansas" by Moneyhon. It was a combined arms affair with Calvary, Infantry and Artillery. It was a planned attack, Union forces to find and destroy the Confederate at Salem, and the Confederates planned and attempted an ambush of the Union forces. It had albeit undersized, several Regiments on both sides. The affair lasted several hours, and there were casualties on both sides. Feds failed to destroy the Confederate Force, The Rebs failed to stop the Union forces. The Union however, drove the rebs from the field and therefore was a Union victory.
