Chesley Rakes' compiled service record shows that he is one and the same man who initially enlisted in the 186th Ohio but soon was transferred to the 195th, possibly because the 186th had filled its ranks. I am in contact with some of his descendants and am trying to answer the question what was life like for him in Virginia after the war. The only record I have of him of being in Confederate service during the war is a postwar roster of the 50th Va that notes he deserted to the Union.
