Dear Sir: I was very excited to see the info on a CW soldier that you had given a relative his. Maybe you can help me also. My great grandfather Charles F. Hagerman from Constantine Mi. was in the First Mich. Cav. Co. M. He entered the militry at the age of 15yrs.4mos.and some odd days. Chas.F.was the sub. for one Geo.A. Blakesley who was from the Detroit area. On the 29 Aug.1864 he entered the service. He was 5ft. 9in. tall with blue eyes and weight was 130 lbs. His occupation was listed as a "Cooper" (a barrel maker). He was discharged 11 May 1866 after being under Geo A. Custer's command.
When he and wife Minnie Ermina Dheil had their children the boys were all named after Civil War Generals. The last boy born was Rice Custer. Could you give me info on where Chas. traveled with Co. M. and the battles he would have been in? Also would he have had any medals. Just last week I found the widow of my relative who has Charles'sword and I hope to be able to hold it in my hands one day. Two years ago I was given his Bible that he carried with him during the War, by a cousin of my late father's. This Bible means the world to me as Chas. had held it in his hands at a time he was fighting for our flag.Â
Thank you for your time, sir.
I am sincerely, Kaye M. Hagerman-Stewart  Â
