Hello, Gene,

Thanks for the additional information. I tracked down Cornelia Eckert by her application for a Civil War pension. Her husband's name was Lucas Eckert. He enlisted as a private in Company F, 4th Minnesota Infantry on 11 Oct 1861 at the age of 33. He died on 2 (or 6) Sept 1862 at Jackson, Tenn., probably of disease. In the regimental roster is name is spelled "Eckhart." He is also listed as having been born in New York state.

Cornelia's pension record has two applications, one dated 4 Aug 1864 and the other 15 Jan 1868. The form also bears the name, "C.E. Mowat, Gdn." Gdn.= Guardian?

She also shows up in the 1880 for Kent Co. (Ada) Michigan census as living with John Mowat (a stonemason born in Scotland, age 78) and two children: John S. (age 12) and Joseph M. (age 10). Her birthplace is given as Canada.

Neither Lucas nor Cornelia show up in the 1860 census. In the 1850 census Lucas Eckert is a farmer living in Shawangunk (Ulster Co.), N.Y. with Matilda (age 43: mother?) and Sarah (age 14: sister?).

Hope this adds a bit to your records.

Robert
