Re: A Marylander in the 2nd Texas Inf?!?

Mr. Edelen,

Don't want to be too off topic so I'll add a fact that has some military relevance and yet relates to the Edeline(maybe Edelen) clan. That is that a second cousin to my brothers, sons and I, one Marie Josephe Edeline was the first wife of Jean Francois Hamtramck. Not a Pole as so many have thought, but of French origin and from Quebec. The future commandant of Detroit, Hamtramck had a distinguished military and political career. The suburb of Detroit, Hamtramck is named after him.

Marie Josephte Edeline Hamtramck died tragically, drowning in the Wabash River (on her way to visit relatives) in NW territory on 29 May 1796. She had borne three children by by Jean Francois. She was the daughter of Louis Victor Edeline mentioned in the previous post who is buried in the Vincennes cemetery. Marie Josephte is also buried there.

A European Edeline discussion forum asserts that all that all North American Edelines (and perhaps Edelens?) descend from one common ancestor male immigrant from the town of Edelyn in northeast Hungary. My assumption is that this move brought him to France and Normandy etc. The time frame is unclear to me.

Thought you and other Edelens might be interested to know of this affirmation.
