I live in St. Mary's County, in extreme southern Maryland. ONe could say that this county might have been the most "Confederacy from here. Many men served in the southern Army from here.
Ironically some of these same men who went over to Virginia to serve in the Maryland units returned to their home county as a prisoner at Point Lookout prison here.
During the 1860 election, only ONE vote from St Marys was cast for Abraham Lincoln!
There is still a chapter of the SCV here also.
Until the mid-sixties, sadly, this county still practiced the Jim Crow laws and had separate schools and even Doctors waiting rooms were segregated.
