Today in 1861, the citizenry of Baltimore defended their homes against an invading army for the second time in less than 50 years. Unarmend civilians were killed when the 6th Mass Infantry, USA, opened fire on its way down Pratt St from the Penn RR station to the B&O RR station. The first shot of the War was fired in Charleston, but the first blood spilt was here in Maryland.
