The Kansas in the Civil War Message Board

Col. Lewis Zahm

I am researching information on Col. Lewis Zahm, 3rd Ohio Cavalry, who settled in Seneca, Kansas after the Civil War. In particular I would be interested in finding out if there are any surviving personal papers of the colonel either among his descendants or in the various historical repositories of Kansas.

The following quotation is from his Kansas obituary.

"In 1874 he came back to Kansas and purchased the farm he resided on in its original state, also half section known as the Steinmeir place on Harris creek, which is now known as the Turck farm. He brought with him from Ohio two cars of thoroughbred and graded stock, and has since been one of the stock growers and handed as many as any farmer in northern Kansas."

I would also be much interested in conversing with any Zahm family members about information they may possess on Lewis Zahm.
