I have begun creating a web-site as a memorial to a family member who served in the 13th Kansas Infantry Volunteers: http://www.geocities.com/civil_war_anderson/
There is information on the unit as well as their battles at Newtonia, Missouri; Cane Hill, Arkansas and Prairie Grove Arkansas.
Creation of the Regiment ---
In August 1862 Cyrus Leland was appointed Recruiting Commissioner for the counties of Atchison, Brown, Doniphan, Marshall and Nemaha. A general rendezvous was established at Camp Staton, city of Atchison. The men composing the Regiment were substantial citizens of the community. Most were men of families and property, principally farmers. The recruits were organized as a regiment on September 10, 1862. Upon being mustered into service at Camp Staton, Kansas by mustering officer 2nd Lt. William M Watts, 3rd U.S. Cavalry on September 20, 1862, the regiment was attached to the Department of Missouri.
