Re: Welch and Macy -- KIA Cherokee Nation

Ken, there is a folder on Benj. W. Welch at the Fort Scott Nat. Historic Site. The folder contains his CSR's from 8th KS Inf and the request for minor pension for his son Benj. P. Welsh.
Orginal pension appl. states Ben P. was born Jan. 1, 1864. Benj. W. was killed in action at Timber Hills, C.N.
Statement in Bourbon Co. July 16, 1866 from L. P. Gray, guardian of Ben. P. states Benj. was killed by guerrillas at Timber Hills, C.N. Nov. 19, 1864. He had been wounded at Poison Springs, AR.
Statement in Bourbon Co. Sept 14, 1867 by L. P. Gray, guardian. States: Killed by guerrillas at Cabin Creek, C.N. Nov 19th, 1864. He was on his way to his command from Fort Scott to Fort Smith, AR where his regt was. He had been home on leave of absence granted by reason of wounds received at battle of Honey Springs. Was with a squad of men when killed.
Hope this helps.
Sandra
