I would be interested to know how many South Carolinians came to Douglas County, Lecompton in particular. I am researching Axalla John Hoole and his wife Betsie who came in '56 and lived in Douglas City just three miles east of Lecompton. Does you have any references to him besides the letters his great grandson published in the KSHS quarterly (I have those). I was in Charleston, SC and looked through some copies of the Darlington Flag (all typescript copies) and saw several notices calling for young men to go to KS.
