Capt. Cleveland had done much less in this cause than John Brown, the leading apostle of the abolitionist movement. Had Cleveland lived to see Brown memorialized by Julia Ward Howe in her "Battle Hymn of the Republic", I'm sure he would have expected similar treatment.
