Thank you. That's the second time that the name appears as Merritt. Hopefully within a short time I'll receive the man's pension records, which should give me an enlistment date which can then be used to obtain his Regular Army CSR. I wish I knew more about how the Kansas records were filed at NARA. Maybe he doesn't have a CSR from his Kansas service and the only possibility will be at Topeka. I'll let you know more when I discover more.
