I have begun reading this book under the link provided by Bob Banks on the Missouri board. I agree it is a very interseting work. It has generated a question I hope I can get answered. On P. 94 Britton mentions General Salomon ordering the 6th Ks. Cav. and the 3rd IHG toward the engagment begining at Newtonia at a trot. Was the IHG a mounted or foot Infantry force? I had thought they were a foot force, but to trot with a Cav. unit would be an undue wear on the soldiers.
