David.....While 6th Kansas Cavalry companies noted were probably from either the 3rd (Montgomery's)or 4th (Weer's)Kansas Volunteers prior to their official transfers in 1862, the original 6th Kansas Cavalry was existing as basically a Home Guard unit from Bourbon County. They were distinguished from Lane's Brigade and did participate in separate actions such as accompanying Lt. Colonel James G. Blunt in his pursuit of Matthews after the burning of Humboldt, Kansas. I will see what my documentation on Morristown says and get back to you.
