Another area you might be interested in would be the line of retreat from the 1862 Indian Expedition. The infantry and prisoners of the 1862 Federal invasion of Indian Territory marched from around Talaquah, Fort Gibson, and the Grand River back to Fort Scott after the Expedition fell apart. The heat, lack of resources (food & water) and dissention between Colonel Salomon, 9th Wisconsin Infantry, and Colonel William Weer, 10th Kansas Infantry, provided a tedious, lengthy march back through your area around the end of July 1862. I do recall one individual that contacted me several years ago trying to locate a grave of his ancestor along the line of march without success.
