This is a little out of my area of geographical expertise, but there is a genealogical socieity which covers much of this area. I'll get the name and perhaps you can contact them. Also, suggest you post this query on the North Carolina Board. The Rowan County Library, in Salisbury, just east of your area of interest, has an outstanding and very large genealogical collection, and they have an on-line index to their holdings. Please check it out. Incidentally, there is a National Cemetery at Salisbury, and it may include some of the men you are interested in.
