Colonel Robert Owen was in the 15th Indiana for only a short time (during the Battle of Rich Mountain in West Virginia). He was probably assigned to a different outfit when he was guarding Camp Morton in Indianapolis. I am pretty sure that the story is correct, since it was written by historians from Indiana and Purdue University.
