My Great-Grandfather Isom Stansifer, as a seventeen-year-old youth, rode his horse to Indianapolis from Waldron , IN (Shelbyville ) in September of 1862 , to join the Third Indiana Calvary, Company L. He was assigned to fight in East Tennessee.
Evidently he did not fight around the clock because he found the time to court a girl from north Georgia ( Walker County ). They were married just after the Wars end and made their home in Chattanooga. All the Stansifers' down south are a result of this union.
I would be more than pleased to find a copy of a photo of Isom's unit, complete with names. I would like to be able to put a face with his physical description which I received from his Military records
I know that it's wishful thinking to hope for a picture like that, but it never hurts to ask.
Thanks & Merry Christmas
