Re: Letters from 8th Illinois Cavalrymen

hi
don't mean to interfere with you but today is 10-31-2014 and there has not been any new posting on this thread so I feel it is o.k. for me to throw a little bit into the mix here.
my great grandfather, frank perkins smith was a bugler with the 8th. for about a year. from about oct. 1861 to august or sept. 1862. he was mustered out because of a heart condition of some kind.
until today, I had never seen a posting from someone who had relatives in the same units a I have. I have now seen two postings covering 3 of my relatives. you and the 8th., and another guy who had a relative in the 36th infantry but in an independent cavalry unit that became part of the 15th. ill. cavalry in dec. 1862 and this second guy and I each also had a relative in the 127th. ill. infantry.
any chance you had anyone in the 3rd. ohio cavalry or 88th. ohio infantry or the 23rd. ohio infantry (the unit that produced two future u.s. presidents) or in the regular army in the pioneer brigade/ u.s. first battalion veteran volunteer engineers ?
I don't expect an answer but it sure feels good to be able to post a message like this. my thanks to this message board for allowing people to post without having to register and log in. that makes it feel like you are posting to family and not some business. lots of great info on this board.
