Re: Captain Frank Clendenin, 147th Illinois Infant

Hi Gerald,

Haven't had much time to check things out but I did find this:

Fulton Journal
August 24,1906

DEATH OF MAJOR F. CLENDENIN
Former Prominent Resident of Morrison
Answered the Final Call at His Home
in Joliet, Friday, Aug. 17

Major Frank Clendenin, who for many years was a prominent citizen of Morrison, died at his home in Joliet.
Friday, August 17, 1906, of anemia from which he had suffered for over a year.

He was born at Lyndon in this county November 23, 1840. When but nineteen years of age he was employed
as clerk in the circuit clerk's office in Morrison and afterwards was given a similar position in the office of the
collector of internal revenue.

When the war broke out Mr. Clendenin enlisted as bugler in Company A. Second Illinois cavalry and was
shortly afterwards transfered to Company C. Eighth Illinois cavalry and was made chief bugler. He was
discharged October 14, 1862, and returned to Morrison. In 1865 he enlisted in Company B 147th Illinois
infantry and went out as Captain. Shortly afterwards he was promoted to the rank of major and served
until he was mustered out in 1886.(1866?)

Major Clendenin then returned to Morrison. In 1867 he was appointed pastmaster(postmaster?) and held
that office for eighteen consecutive years or until 1885. Three years afterwards he went to Joliet and later to
Rocky Ford, Colo., where he established a bank. From there he went to Tacoma, Wash., where he remained until
his health began to fail when he returned to Joliet.

The deceased leaves a wife, one son A.A. Clendenin of Buffalo, N. Y., and one brother, General William Clendenin
of Moline.

The funeral services were held Sunday in Joliet and the body was taken to Morrison Monday where it was
interred with Masonic honors.
