Alton, Ill. Union Prison

My ancestor, Col. Squire Boone, who commanded the 15th Arkansas (Northwest) Infantry at the Battle of Corinth, Miss. was taken prisoner and as a result of his injuries, had a leg removed. In early January of 1863 he was sent to Alton, Ill. as a prisoner of war. He stayed there about two months until being sent to Camp Chase, Ohio.
My question is this: When confederate officers arrived at the Alton Prison, were photographs ever taken of them, or information about them recorded somewhere? Also, are there any photos extant of Alton Prison, or of the soldiers kept there?
