Bruce, Thank you for posting.The 36IL.Inf. received their muskets at St.Louis.The story goes Company K Waynes Rifles when called forward to get their muskets were given .69 reworked guns instead of the .58 Enfields the remainder of the regiment received.Supposedly the company protested leaving the armory(arsenal?) in good order with no weapons.They did have these muskets because it proved a problem at Stones River when their train was captured and had trouble finding ammo..Them having to drop back the morning of Dec.31,1862 after holding four Confederate charges.Jan. 1863 were finally given Enfields.One of my kin caught up with the regiment at St.Louis and mustered there instead of Aurora.IL as most did.Pvt. Edward Clark died at Perryville. I'll see what I can do.
