I found the 2nd Ill cav history written in the latter part of the 19th century online. There is also a book on the 12th Ill cav written by one of my professors at NIU, Samuel J. Blackwell (good read). I know in this book he used primary sources (diaries and letters) from the 12th, located in the Illinois State Archives. Hope this helps, good luck.bg
