Jacob, the only incident that is even close that I know of is the Draft Riot at Charleston.Where veteranising members of the 54IL.Inf home on leave were called in to suppress. The local sheriff headed the protesters as I recall.Was his name O'Hara?You can find online or E-mail me and I can search my files.Illinois played a large part in the Rebellion from Lincoln,officers such as Grant and Sheridan to name a few,men,supplies,and prisons.There were many that disagreed with the effort and their voices heard both underground ,O.A.K., Knights of the Golden Circle,Sons of Liberty etc.and publicly the Peace Democrats.Rev.Col.Jaquess 73rd IL.Inf.You have to remember Habeous Corpus was suspended nation wide and the Federal Government didn't tolerate dissent as we do today.The major dissenting organizations were infaltrated early on and rendered inaffective. Bloodshed of brave Illinois men is found in Confederate soil in every major battle of the war.Yet, to my knowledge the only blood found in Illinois is that of southern prisoners.Honor all men...
