I have heard rumors that there was a Civil War battle fought in southern Illinois. I know that there where southern Illinois residents during the Civil War that sided with the Confederacy. I was wondering if anyone would have any further information on this subject? I think that if there was a battle in Illinois that we need to look into this more deeply and think about future preservation efforts for this battle site. I have never heard of any battles being fought in Illinois and I know that Illinois is not listed as having had any battles in it during the Civil War, but maybe there was a small skirmish that we have overlooked?
