Yes, from West Virginia, Col. James Mulligan wrote Father Denis Dunne an amusing letter of congratulations on Dunne's having become the honorary colonel of the 90th. Dunne took the lead in organizing the 90th so Mulligan wrote: "I bid you welcome to the new vocation. I hail your conversion from the breviary to the bayonet; from the canon law to the law of the cannons; from 'taking heaven by violence' to taking towns by storm. etc."

Chicago can be proud of its two Irish regiments, who served their adopted country so honorably.
