Re: Reyner brothers of Maquoketa, Iowa

I am gathering information on the 9th Iowa. I volunteered at the Pea Ridge Natl Military Park for 11 years & gave most of my talks by the Elkhorn Tavern where the 9th received its baptism of fire. The day before the battle, the 9th marched 42 miles from Huntsville, AR in 17 hours to rejoin the army, took 40% casualties on the first day and helped retake the lost ground on the second. They earned the nickname of the "Bloody Ninth" after that fight.

According to the Iowa Adjutant General's report, Franklin enlisted July 21, 1861, was mustered into Federal service on September 24 and was promoted to Drum Major on April 8, 1862. The report states that he did not reenlist as a veteran volunteer. Henry enlisted on December 29, 1863, was mustered on January 15, 1864 and was mustered out on July 18, 1865 at Louisville, KY. Marcus enlisted and was mustered on January 19, 1862, reenlisted as a veteran volunteer and was mustered out with Henry. He is listed as having been wounded in the arm on March 21, 1865 at Bentonville, NC. The AG report states that they were all born in Maryland and that Henry was from South Fork.

I hope this helps. If any of your information differs, please let me know.

Steve
