Re: Iowans in the Confederate Service

Hello,

I don't know of any from Lee co. but I have done some research on two from Dubuque, Iowa. Their father was George Wallace Jones and he was friends with Jefferson Davis. Charles S.D. Jones asked/and did serve under Bushrod Johnson as a staff member(Capt.). He was captured at Drury's Bluff/exchanged and eventually pardened. The other son, George Jones( I've just started on) was with the 1rst Tn. Art.(not sure this is correct Unit) and was captured at Ft. Henry(?). As I said, I've just started on him and have not had time to read all my information yet.

There is also a young boy from Scott county who's family asked for some research, not only for their information on him but also for a Confederate head stone. Unfortunately the family doesn't know what Unit he was with, just that he was a POW at Rock Island Arsenal and his father asked for his release. Release was granted.

Hope this helps you some.
