Hello Mary, While I can't speak for others it would help me to know your soldiers name and regiment so I can look at his CMSR's myself. I would assume that you're correct insofar as CC being Camp Chase and it was also known as CCO Camp Chase, Ohio. As of now I don't know if I'm dealing with a Union paroled prisoner or a Confederate prisoner of war. If he was a paroled Union prisoner then Camp Chase and Camp Parole would have been the two major parole camps in the Union. Camp Parole usually being in the Eastern theatre of War and Camp Chase being considered at that particular time period as the Western theatre of War insofar as parole camps were concerned. Usually a paroled Union prisoner would have been taken to the parole camp nearest his home. As an example an Indiana soldier usually would have been taken to Camp Chase and a soldier from New York would have been taken to Camp Parole, Maryland. There were several smaller parole camps outside of the two main ones and knowing what state his regiment was from would help and the date of his capture would also help. A few years ago at the National Archives in DC I copied the various parole camps throughout the North and off the top of my head I believe there were about 15 to 20 smaller parole camps. The acronym CGB insofar as a Camp is not ringing any bells. Without further information it would only be wild speculation on my part. If the date was in July 1863 then a wild speculation may be Captured @ Gettysburg = CGB if he was a midwest soldier he could have been taken to Camp Parole and then forwarded to Camp Chase. While this scenario is unlikely due to the breakdown with the Dix-Hill Cartel agreement in May of 1863 it's the best I can do with limited information. It's also possible that General Ainsworth and his staff in the later 1800's or a junior officer during the War made a mistake. Without looking at it I'm afraid I can't be much help. Thx Dennis
