Re: George Williamson Finley's prison experience

Hello Tom:

Just to finish the story, Lieutenant Finley was among the Immortal 600 survivors who were returned to Fort Delaware from Fort Pulaski and Hilton Head. They arrived on 12 MAR 1865. After all that he suffered while away, you would expect there to be records of further hospital treatment upon his return to Fort Delaware. None have been found. He was released on Special War Department Orders on 14 MAY 1865 upon taking the Lincoln Amnesty Oath. Given other releases underway at this point in time, this suggests to me that he had asked to take the Oath prior to the fall of Richmond on 2 APR 1865.

Can you confirm any of this from your examination of his papers?

What do I need to know to get a copy of his memoirs?
