My father-in-law was Robert Welty, born in Goshen, Indiana. The Welty family tree that we have begins with Ulrich Welty, born 1728, in Switzerland. I haven't done any intensive research into the family, so I am unaware of military involvement. I do know there were 3 Welty brothers that emigrated to the US from Switzerland. One brother settled in the Pennsylvania area, one in the area of Ohio/Indiana, and one settled in the western states (Wyoming? CA?). I also know the original Weltys were Mennonites, and many of the descendants are still practicing Mennonites. Hope that answers your question!
