Thanks for the information, Frederick. Some of this I had picked up from Wikipedia but you filled in a lot of details. The relative in question was listed as a guerrilla on a Union POW list, along with his brother. The brother is shown as having been released "on oath". The other one (my soldier of interest) was listed as "sent to Vicksburg." Any idea what happened to theses guys after they arrived in Vicksburg? We they assigned to regular units or simply sent home? He survived the war and is buried in his old home area in West Virginia.
